Me and Jasmine had to go out to record a music video for Abba – Dancing Queen. We had started this project by thinking of different indoor locations we could film in. We wanted it to be indoors because it was raining outside at the time we had to record. The first location that we had chosen was Tower Ramparts, which we got the first three shots of the video we would have got more shots but we had to go because we didn’t get permission to film there. So after that we decided to re-locate to Buttermarket which we shot the rest of the shots that we needed in order to make the complete video.
In recording we decided to split the share by performing the verses separately and then performing the chorus together. We then decided to record a bunch of out takes to fill in any spaces that essentially were going to be a black screen without it. It also gave us the ending of the video.
The element of using the tambourine was to tie the video in with the lyrics.
If I had to do this project again there is a lot that I would do different. Some of it is to get different angles in some of the shots. More variety of shot to use. Maybe add a black and white effect on some of the outtakes and if possible add a time bar to it to give them more of a rough feel on them. More locations used. Also I would stripe the tape making it easier in editing as Jasmine and I had a problem with the time code resetting itself and then getting the batch capturing wrong. So that’s what I would do differently.
